At the end of June 2013, UK CMM were proud to host the second Texas Boots Festival at the Cotgrave Welfare in Cotgrave. This four day event was an indoor music festival for country music and line dancing fans and was a huge success, which is absolutely fantastic and a testament to the quality of the acts that performed.
This year’s line-up catered for everyone’s tastes. We started Thursday night to get the weekend underway with Amy Morgan and she did a great job entertaining all in the room. Friday opened with Johnny Holland who had a few followers in the room and went down well, Diamond & Dallas went on next and were well received, we then had Patsy G a new act to the audience until realising she was Wendy from popular duo Clearwater, Patsy gave us some older songs and a selection of material everybody enjoyed, then to finish off the afternoon was Brian Gibson from the North-East, Brian has a witty way about him and soon had the audience enjoying themselves which brought Friday afternoon to a close. Friday night started with Billy Bubba King who gave a great selection of songs and catered for the line-dancers well, next we had Nancy Ann Lee who is a bundle of dynamite, she entertained us in her own style and had the audience from the start, to finish Friday night we had a band called Atlanta, they were great musicians who had everybody happy with their choice of songs with some of their own in the set as well as everyone’s favorites.
Saturday we started with Paul Taylor who got the dancers up from the first song, going down very well, in contrast next we had Jim Clarke who is great singer who sings mainly traditional songs that everyone enjoyed, then back to the dancers with Richard Palmer who is one of the most popular acts on the circuit today, Natalie Diamond was due to appear but couldn’t because of throat problems, [ Too much talking ] Friday night we opened with Richard again followed by Darren Busby who was amazing, he turned the tracks off during his performance and treated the audience to some acoustic songs and you could have heard a pin drop, he did get some banter today as it was his 50th birthday, after Darren we had Gary Perkins & The Breeze, what a show they put on, they had the audience jumping and it was a great end to a great day.
Sunday saw the last day of the festival getting underway with Clearwater, Wendy and Dave both have great voices which enabled them to do a good variety of songs which went down well, Darren went back on and gave us a great show followed by Hank T who is very traditional and again made a great contrast. We are on the last night now and we had Donna Wylde to open up the show, she gave a great performance and went down very well and was joined by Tony Dallas on her encore to play acoustic guitar while she sand ” All That Glitters ” off her latest album, Chris Raddings took to the stage next and gave a great performance treating us to an acoustic version of one of his own songs that the audience loved. To finish the weekend we had Raintown, they are a band from Scotland getting a lot of interest from Nashville and have represented the UK over there, they are a modern country band with great musicianship and excellent singing from Paul & Clare.
We feel that we presented something for everyone which is what we have to do, we have had great feedback and everyone enjoyed themselves.
Special thanks to Wendy Gibson who did a great job as compere.
